UK (Commonwealth)_Thanks to Volkswagen’s recent GenAI collaboration with Google Cloud, drivers may now pose queries about their car to a specialized AI virtual assistant.

Volkswagen is providing owners of the MY24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport with an AI virtual assistant that can offer advice on their vehicle by fusing Google Gemini models on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform with connected car data.

The helper may be found in the “myVW” software, which gives users access to tools for controlling and keeping an eye on important VW car features.
The automaker noted that inquiries like “How do I change a flat tire?” might be made by drivers. or “What’s the meaning of this cockpit light?” utilizing their cellphones to identify the light they are referring to for the AI.

the release of new features and technology that improve every Volkswagen customer’s ownership experience and foster a passion for our cars, according to Abdallah Shanti, CIO of Volkswagen Group of America.

“AI is becoming a useful tool that Volkswagen owners can use to better understand their cars and find answers to their questions more quickly and easily.”

According to Volkswagen, the Gemini model can retrieve data from many sources using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and Big Query. This includes owner’s manuals for vehicles, answers to commonly asked questions, articles from the support center, official Volkswagen YouTube videos, and step-by-step instructions.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, stated that Volkswagen is delivering the potential of advanced generative AI straight to its customers, setting a new benchmark for driver experiences.

The myVW Virtual Assistant, which is based on our AI platform and makes use of the multi-modal capabilities of our Gemini models, has enabled owners of Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models from model year 2024 to have access to highly personalized vehicle support.
Beginning in 2025, owners of MY20 and newer Volkswagen vehicles will be able to utilize the virtual assistant via the app.

Volkswagen began incorporating ChatGPT into its cars earlier this year. Volkswagen has declared that it will include ChatGPT in its cars in order to provide more “enriching conversations.”

During the electronics trade show CES in Las Vegas, the German automaker revealed its plans and stated that starting in Q2 2024, certain of its models will be equipped with the OpenAI platform as standard equipment.

Beyond the previous voice control it promised, this connection will provide a plethora of additional features. By saying “Hello IDA” or tapping the button on the steering wheel, for instance, you can utilize its IDA voice assistant to operate entertainment, air conditioning, navigation, and general knowledge questions.
According to VW, ChatGPT will facilitate more meaningful interactions, answer inquiries, give drivers access to vehicle-specific data, and much more.

Security experts issued a warning about the dangers of incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into cars in the middle of last year, pointing out that AI may be abused to mislead chatbots into producing sensitive data.

According to Dennis Kengo Oka, senior principal automotive security strategist at Synopsys Software Integrity Group, a hacker can manipulate the input or output of an AI chatbot to change its behavior in order to access sensitive information, rather than directly asking the chatbot to perform a malicious action or provide unauthorized data.

Nevertheless, VW added that, in collaboration with their chatbot partner, Cerence Chat Pro, it has made sure ChatGPT does not obtain access to any vehicle data and that all queries and responses are promptly removed to guarantee security.

Stefan Ortmanns, CEO of Cerence, expressed his company’s pride in building on its automotive experience and long-standing cooperation with Volkswagen to give its consumers new technologies that use huge language models and generative AI, even after they have purchased a vehicle.

Looking ahead, Cerence and Volkswagen will investigate working together to develop a novel, large-language model-based user interface that will serve as the basis for Volkswagen’s upcoming in-car assistant.

The all-new Tiguan, all-new Passat, all-new Golf, and ID.7, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.3 vehicles are available with the new chatbot.

AI has greatly aided in the design and production of vehicles by streamlining procedures and boosting productivity in a number of ways.
