LONDON (CU)_The United Kingdom and countries across the Commonwealth will mark 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth this weekend. A series of events have been scheduled to mark the major milestone, with the attendance of high-profile individuals. A thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral and a party at Buckingham Palace are a part of the celebrations, which will be attended by members of the Royal Family, including the Queen’s grandson Prince Harry and her wife Meghan Markle.

The couple, who stepped down from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family more than two years ago, are expected to arrive in the UK along with their children Archie and Lilibet. They are expected to attend a few of the major events scheduled for the weekend, but will not join the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony following Trooping the Colour on Thursday.

According to sources, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to “keep it simple” during the visit, so as to avoid overshadowing the Queen on her Jubilee, although the couple is expected to be on the spotlight, since this will be their first joint visit to the UK since moving to the US in March, 2020.

During their time in the UK, the couple will stay at their Windsor home of Frogmore Cottage, and will avoid carrying out their own engagements. Their daughter Lilibet will also celebrate her first birthday during their visit while observers speculate that the Sussexes may try to have her christened at the private chapel at Windsor Castle, where Archie was also christened in 2019. Regardless, their visit will provide the Queen with an opportunity to meet her great-grand-daughter, who she has not yet met in person, as well as Archie, who was only 10 months old when he moved to the US with his parents.
