-

Syria and Turkey were recently hit by an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude. The earthquake brought with it massive destruction, great loss of life with a death toll exceeding 25,000 and immense devastation. There were multiple heartbreaking tragedies as the countries mourned heavy loss, but through this doom, there was a small sliver of hope in the form of the survivors.

Recently, a picture of a 7 year old little girl was making its rounds on the internet. The picture showed a little girl, using her arm to shield her brother under all the rubble as they struggled to survive. Both the girl and her brother made it out alive.

Another shocking story that surfaced on the web was that of a new-born baby girl who was birthed amidst the wreckage. The baby survived and was rescued alive from the rubble, however her mother was unable to make it through and passed away. Some observers saw the birth of this new-born as a symbol of hope and optimism.

A heartwarming story of a father reuniting with his daughter after being caught in the destruction for 74 hours is a tale that spread hope around the world for more to survive the aftershocks of the disaster. The daughter was rescued 2 hours after the aftershocks of the quake while her father was rescued during the 74th hour.

After 203 hours of the earthquake, a woman was rescued after she was found alive buried under the rubble. Rescuers call her a miracle survivor. Even though there was little hope for any more to be rescued, the discovery of this lady has prompted rescue teams to continue their efforts.

These stories of some of the survivors highlight the trauma faced by Turkey and Syria, even though a handful made it out alive, more than 25,000 people met with their deaths due to this unfortunate tragedy.
