GLOBAL – It Looks like everyone wants to be a part of the party that is Metaverse in the coming future. Luxury Bran Hermes has now started the process for its stepping into the Web3.
The Metaverse is making an entrance into the fashion world and Hermes does not want to be left behind in the trenches. The process began legally a few months back and now it seems that they are making headway.
The trademark application that has been filled out will cover not only the Metaverse but also the NFT’s and cryptocurrencies. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the trademark covers downloadable software to view, store and manage virtual goods, digital collectibles, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs “for use in online worlds.”
But the trademark doesn’t end there will also be a trademark for “retail store services featuring virtual goods” as well as fashion and trade shows in “online virtual, augmented or mixed reality environments” and for “providing an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of virtual goods.”
Apart from not wanting to be left behind this legal trademark action also comes as Mason Rothschild used the brand name when he released a NFT under the name Metabirkin. It was alleged that he made millions of Meta Birkin this as people thought it had something to do with Hermes as a brand.
Hermes did not take it kindly that their name was being used and they were not getting anything out of it. Birkin is a top luxury designer bag and can only be afforded by the 20% of the wealthy in the world.
The design house did not bat an eyelid to make a statement regarding the fact that they had nothing to do with the NFT. With the trademark coming into place, it would be difficult for Rothschild to reuse the NFT.
