LONDON (CU)_The long-awaited four-day bank holiday weekend marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will kick off at 10am on Thursday, 2 June. The celebrations will begin with a special jubilee edition of the traditional Trooping the Colour parade, followed by a series of special events marking the major milestone in the monarch’s life. As royal fans across the UK eagerly await the Jubilee weekend, many are wondering what the weather will be like over the four-day holiday.

It is still premature to make an official forecast on the weather, it is looking promising so far, with lots of sunshine and warm conditions. “At the moment it looks as though the weather will turn drier and increasingly settled as we head towards the end of May with high pressure becoming the dominant feature into the first week of June,” Kirsty McCabe, the weather producer for Sky News, said. “That means we can expect largely dry, settled and warm conditions with a royally good amount of sunshine for the Jubilee weekend.”

She went on to acknowledge that forecast models are unable to give specific details this far in advance. “[…] so it’s worth keeping an eye on the details nearer the time. However, the present outlook indicates weather fit for a Queen,” she added. McCabe went on to explain that air descends under an area of high pressure and this high pressure during the British summertime often brings warm weather and light winds.

This heartening weather forecast for the Jubilee weekend was confirmed by the Met Office which spoke of the prospect of sunny weather over the four-day holiday. “Into June, temperatures are likely to be above average across the south but closer to average further north,” the national weather service said, but added that the weather could turn “less settled” toward mid-June across the north of the UK, bringing rain or showers for the area. The south however could remain largely fine.
