India (Commonwealth Union) _ With just under a million shipments in the Indian market during the third quarter of 2022, HP continued to hold the overall PC category lead, according to IDC. The third quarter of 2022, however, marked the third consecutive quarter that the PC segment as a whole experienced a sharp decline, falling by 11.7%. The consumer and business sectors accelerated the overall decline. The government sector, on the other hand, was the only one to continue experiencing positive growth, increasing by 91.5 percent year over year in the third quarter of 2022. With the aid of higher online sales, the consumer category, which had an overall drop in the third quarter, was able to rebound towards the end of September. According to the survey, the consumer market was able to ship 2.1 million units in the third quarter of 2022.

Premium laptop demand decreased significantly by 28.5 percent in the commercial sector but increased by 9.8 percent in the consumer sector. According to the research, Apple’s outstanding performance and the high traction ASUS’ gaming laptops saw during the quarter both contributed to the consumer category growth of premium notebooks.

Despite a general deterioration in sentiment in the third quarter of 2022, HP continued to hold the top spot in the PC market with a share of 23.9 percent. Although it continued to dominate both markets, the Palo Alto, California-based company’s consumer share fell to 22.1 percent and its commercial share to 25.9 percent. Lenovo passed Dell for second place with a commanding 18.8 percent share in the consumer market. According to the research, a rise in internet sales was what caused this. Despite the dire state of overall procurements in the category, Lenovo also led the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) segment with a share of 32%.

The reopening of schools and colleges, according to IDC, has led to declining demand for online education and is the main cause of the consumer segment’s deterioration. Meanwhile, a “weakened currency is pushing suppliers’ prices up and driving up the cost of devices.” Vendors postponed price hikes in Q3 due to the ongoing online sales, although the reductions weren’t as profitable as in prior quarters. According to Bharath Shenoy, Senior Market Analyst, IDC India, vendors are anticipated to raise pricing in Q4, which might further depress sentiment.
