Hyderabad Rains: KCR urges PM Modi to release 1350 crore

         Hyderabad (CWBN)_ Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao said that the heavy rains have so far caused losses worth INR 5000 crore in the state. He urged Prime Minister Modi to immediately release INR 1350 crore fund for the relief activities. Rao held an emergency review meeting in Hyderabad today to review the current flood situation in the state. The continuous heavy rains in Hyderabad caused an emergency situation in the state.

        At the meeting, the discussion was on the rehabilitation work done so far and the relief activities to be carried out, in the future to safeguard people from this natural calamity. The Chief minister said the recovery measures will be initiated according to the directions from the state government office.

       The main motive of the meeting was to prepare a report on the losses incurred by the state due to heavy rain and flash floods. Hence, the CM along with the other officials discussed on the losses caused and prepared the report to submit to the Central government in order to claim funds for the relief measures.

       The Chief Minister urged the officials to come prepared for the meeting and instructed the different department officials to provide detailed information on the losses suffered in the respective departments. 

The statement said “In the review meeting, the leaders discuss the rehabilitation measures taken, additional measures to be taken and the issues to be mentioned in the Report to be submitted to the Centre”. The list of delegates participated in the review meeting included Municipal Administration and IT Minister KT Rama Rao, Minister for Power Jagdeesh Reddy, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, R&B Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Ministers from Hyderabad T Srinivas Yadav, Mehmood Ali, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao, SPDCL CMD Raghuma Reddy, Principal Secretaries of Municipal, Agriculture, R&B, GHMC Commissioner, Hyderabad Collectors, etc. It was said that each came up with their loss report in their respective departments.

       The heavy rains in the southern and western parts of India have caused great loss to lives, infrastructure and agriculture in the past few days. The heavy floods and the overflowing rivers have so far killed 40 people, with the worst being state of Telangana who lost 30 people in the floods. The excessive unseasonal rainfall flooded the capital city Hyderabad and caused fatal damage to the state as well. To note, Hyderabad is a major city in the south that inhabits major multinational IT companies such as Microsoft, Accenture, Amazon and TCS and many startups too.

       The heavy rain not only affected Telangana, but also the western state of Maharashtra where 10 people were killed due to wall collapses, electrocution and drowning in overflowing streams. The officials from the two states confirmed the above facts on Thursday.
