USA (Commonwealth Union)_ The growing presence of Indian-origin technology leaders in the United States is becoming an important link between India and the American technology industry. A recent gathering in Seattle highlighted how this community is contributing to innovation in the US while also creating new opportunities for India and the global technology sector. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella was the Guest of Honour at the “Ideas4India: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum | Unlocking the Tech Dividend,” organised by the Consulate General of India in Seattle.
The forum gathered over 40 Indian-origin CEOs and CTOs from the Greater Seattle and Pacific Northwest technology ecosystem. Additionally, executives from firms including Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, OpenAI, Anthropic, Intel, Veeam Software, Helion, Zenoti, and Viome Life Sciences also took part in the talks. Nadella delivered a speech on the transformation of Seattle’s technology sector in the past 35 years and its growing links with India. He described artificial intelligence as a general-purpose technology whose benefits could reach people and industries across countries. The discussions focused on areas where India and the US can work more closely, including artificial intelligence, data centres, semiconductors, quantum technology, talent development, aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

Furthermore, Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra also delivered a speech at the gathering. He highlighted India’s commitment to building an AI ecosystem based on openness, inclusion, safety, trust and wider access to technology. The forum also honored two prominent Indian-origin tech leaders based in Seattle: Samir Bodas, co-founder and CEO of Icertis, and S. Somasegar, a former Microsoft corporate vice president who now serves as managing director at Madrona Venture Group. The event opened with a minute’s silence to remember them. Additionally, Padma Shri awardee Ajay Bhatt, popular for his contributions to USB technology and his association with Intel, also took part in the discussions.

The gathering reflected how the India-US technology relationship is becoming increasingly two-way. Many of the companies present at the forum already run substantial engineering, research, and business operations in India. As such, Microsoft plans to invest $17.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2029, while Amazon has announced an investment of $48 billion in India between 2026 and 2030. For India, the growing success of its technology professionals in the US is a source of pride. Their work is helping strengthen American innovation while creating new connections with India. The Seattle forum showed how this global Indian community can play a meaningful role in shaping the future of technology.
