India and Tanzania to collaborate on…

India (Commonwealth Union)_ India and Tanzania engaged in discussions pertaining to United Nations reforms, as disclosed by an official from the Ministry of External Affairs. The two nations reached a mutual understanding to collaborate on the overhaul of the UN Security Council, focusing on expansion across both categories of membership. During a special briefing on Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan‘s State visit to India, the MEA official conveyed, “Both sides also discussed issues related to the reforms of the United Nations. Both countries are in agreement to work together on the much-needed reform of the UN Security Council through expansion in both categories of membership. Tanzania also expressed support for India’s non-permanent election bid for 2028-29.”

Additionally, Tanzania extended congratulations to India for its successful G20 Presidency, with President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal initiative to include the African Union as a permanent member in the G20. The MEA official elucidated, “Tanzania congratulated India on a successful G20 Presidency and the G20 New Delhi Leaders declaration adopted at the G20 Leaders Summit last September, in which G20 leaders welcomed the African Union as a permanent member of the G20. The Tanzanian President deeply appreciated India’s gesture, particularly Honourable Prime Minister Modi’s personal initiative in bringing together the leadership of the G20 to include the African Union in the G20 as a permanent member.”

Furthermore, it was highlighted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is scheduled to address both the Indian and Tanzanian business communities at the India-Tanzania Business and Investment Forum. This visit is anticipated to invigorate bilateral relations and foster economic connections between India and Tanzania. The MEA official elucidated, “President Samia Suluhu Hassan will attend the India-Tanzania Business and Investment Forum, where she will deliver the keynote address to the Indian and Tanzanian business communities. She will also hold one-on-one meetings with key Indian business leaders to seek investments in Tanzania.

The visit of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to provide further momentum to bilateral relations and promote economic ties between the two countries, including investments in Tanzania by Indian entrepreneurs.” In addition, the MEA official pointed out that India and Tanzania have made substantial strides in their relations of late and have, therefore, agreed to elevate their relationship to that of a strategic partnership. They are also exploring novel avenues of cooperation, including trade conducted in local currencies and the proposition of establishing an Indian industrial park in Tanzania, along with the provision of vocational training facilities for Tanzanian youth.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi engaged in a bilateral meeting with Tanzanian President Hassan at Hyderabad House in the national capital. President Hassan received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan and participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Rajghat. The Tanzanian President’s visit to India, extended in response to President Drapupadi Murumu’s invitation, was warmly received by Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi upon her arrival at the Delhi airport.
