USA (Commonwealth Union)_ Kamal Menghrajani, a distinguished Indian-American oncologist, has been selected as one of the fifteen exceptionally gifted, fervent, and accomplished individuals comprising the 2023-2024 cohort of White House Fellows. Dr. Menghrajani, renowned for her expertise in cancer treatment, specifically in the realm of leukemia, has been assigned to the Office of Science and Technology Policy. In this prestigious role, she will dedicate a year to collaborating closely with senior White House staff, Cabinet Secretaries, and other esteemed members of the administration.

According to an official White House statement, Dr. Menghrajani, originating from New York, proudly represents the singular Indian-American participant within this cohort of fifteen exceptional individuals. In a personal expression of her enthusiasm and gratitude, she remarked, “President Biden announced my appointment as a White House Fellow. As the first oncologist ever selected, I’m excited to lead, serve, and innovate for our patients in this new role with the Cancer Moonshot and Health Outcomes teams @WHOSTP,” in a post shared on her social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), following the White House’s recent announcement.

According to a statement on her LinkedIn profile, within the purview of her responsibilities, Dr. Menghrajani will be collaborating with the Cancer Moonshot and Health Outcomes teams at the Office of Science and Technology Policy, situated within the Executive Office of the President. Her professional journey has been characterized by significant contributions to cancer research with a focus on early diagnosis and prevention, alongside pioneering endeavors to promote health equity among vulnerable populations in global contexts, including Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Uganda.

Acknowledging her remarkable achievements, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where Dr. Menghrajani previously served as a faculty member, posted their congratulations on X, stating, “Congratulations Dr. @KamalMe, a former attending on MSK’s #leukemia service, on being named a @WHFellow supporting the #CancerMoonshot!” In addition to her medical pursuits, Dr. Menghrajani has ventured into entrepreneurship, co-founding startups aimed at addressing unmet needs in cancer treatment and leveraging artificial intelligence for expedited cancer diagnosis. She has also played a pivotal role in the growth of the non-profit organization Nourish International, dedicated to engaging student leaders as social entrepreneurs in international development work.
