India (Commonwealth Union)_ Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Vishakhapatnam, India, has launched two Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) that are being constructed under the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) class. The 118-meter Nistar and Nipun will be used by the Indian Navy to conduct deep sea diving operations, as well as search and rescue missions, patrols, and heli-operations at sea. As the Indian Navy constructed Nistar and Nipun, which are seen to symbolize “a new era” in deep ocean diving operations and submarine rescue operations, IRS provided a wide variety of classification services to the Indian Navy.

A package of noise and vibration monitoring and analysis work by Colombo Dockyard was recently granted by IRS as part of another big project for the classification organization. This project is related to a fleet of six bulk carriers being built for a Norwegian owner. The first ship in the ground-breaking series was handed over on September 21, 2022, and the next five ships will follow at a four-monthly interval. A committed group of IRS specialists frequently provides shipyards and shipowners in India and overseas with noise and vibration analysis and measurement services. Seafarer well-being is a crucial factor of concern for owners and managers, adds IRS, and with such services, we seek to assist owners to enhance the welfare of seafarers.

Indian Register of Shipping is happy to provide the Indian Navy with complete classification services, according to Cdr. KK Dhawan (Ret.), head of the IRS Defence Division. A new era in deep sea diving operations and submarine rescue operations is represented by Nistar and Nipun. To the Indian defense sector, IRS is wholly dedicated. Our strengths and expertise as a top classification society dedicated to assisting the defense industry are demonstrated by this ground-breaking endeavor.
