Indian student inflows in…

-

The post-Covid pent up request for overseas education still seems to hold good for Australia. The amount of Indian students visiting Australia for higher education have surpassed the pre-Covid levels in the recent year.

The Department of Home Affairs (Australia) approved 382,000 student visas between July 2022 and February 2023. This is a 41.3% upsurge related to the same period of 2019-2020, informed the Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) Monica Kennedy, Australian Government.

She was speaking at a press conference to declare ‘Study Australia Roadshow’ in the city, to be held in September.

She informed the amount of Indian students unresolved in Australia has increased to 95,791 in the January-April period of 2023 as in contrast to 75,109 students in the same period of 2022. ‘In January-May 2023 alone, Australia greeted 47,759 Indian students.”

Kennedy stated the surge in student arrivals is due to the growing ambition of Indian students in search of international degrees, students and migrant approachable procedures of Australia, high-end universities, and post study work prospects.

She further stated, the Australian government in July issued a list of courses dedicated to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and health, areas where Australia has a talent gap. She informed, students choosing these courses are permitted to stay two further years for post-study work. Under the program, an undergraduate can be stationed up to 4 years (including two years post study), 5 years for Masters and 6 years for doctoral program.

Kennedy stated the administration is also taking a number of other procedures including evaluation of Australia’s migration Act and variations on post-study work policies.

Kennedy said the validation of an instrument for the Mutual Acknowledgement of Credentials between Australia and India in March and endorsement for an Australian University to set up foreign campus in India are evidence of a strong India-Australia relationship.

Earlier this year, the Indian government permitted Australia’s University of Wollongong and Deakin University and to establish campuses in GIFT City, Gujarat. She informed, It’s a really big deal. It’s an acknowledgement that Australia and India have admiration for each other’s schemes and want to advance flexibility of students across boundaries.
