Jaguar Land Rover revving up luxury in Tamil Nadu

-

India (Commonwealth) _ A $1 billion facility that India’s Tata Motors plans to construct in the southern state of Tamil Nadu would produce luxury vehicles for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), according to well-known international news sources with firsthand knowledge of the situation.

According to the idea, JLR-branded vehicles will be produced in India for the first time ever from scratch. One of the insiders, who wished to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the plans, stated that the automobiles will be marketed both locally and internationally.

2008 saw Tata Motors purchase JLR; the company declined to comment on what it dubbed conjecture. Plans for the Tamil Nadu facility were revealed in March, but neither the cars to be produced there nor the plant’s anticipated production capacity were disclosed. In addition to its three plants in Britain, JLR now produces automobiles in China, Brazil, and Slovakia.

It remains very much a niche brand in India, where it offers vehicles such the Jaguar F-Pace, Range Rover Evoque, and Discovery Sport. Britain exports completely assembled automobiles or parts that are produced at a factory close to Pune city for the models that are marketed in India.

Approximately two-thirds of Tata Motors’ income comes from JLR, and the Indian automaker announced its first yearly profit in five years in the fiscal year that concluded in March 2023, thanks in large part to the high demand for Jaguar saloons and aggressive Range Rover SUVs.

In the most recent fiscal year, the British brand recorded a 22% increase in retail sales worldwide to around 432,000 vehicles. It only sold 4,436 units in India, where it faces competition from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, despite an 81% increase in sales over the previous year due to rising demand for luxury products. This is in line with a safety recall warning that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released on Friday. It was unclear at first which JLR models would be produced on-site.

The largest automobile manufacturer in Britain, Jaguar Land Rover has been a part of Tata Motors since 2008. It creates, produces, and markets some of the most well-known premium vehicles in the world.

With sustainability and quality at its core, Jaguar Land Rover is redefining these brands for a world of modern luxury via design. With this approach, Jaguar Land Rover hopes to become the world’s leading manufacturer of premium automobiles and services for the most discriminating consumers.

Even if semiconductor problems affected sales, Jaguar Land Rover had significant order bank growth and very few cancellations. As of March 31, 2022, the order bank had grown to 168,471 units, including 45,584 orders for the New Range Rover and 40,618 orders for the Defender.

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC is the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover Limited, which is a global automotive corporation based in the United Kingdom that manufactures luxury and sport utility cars. The headquarters of Jaguar Land Rover, a Tata Motors subsidiary, are located in Whittle, Coventry, UK. Design, development, production, and retailing of automobiles with the Land Rover and Jaguar trademarks constitute the main business of Jaguar Land Rover Limited.

Prior to their merger, both brands had lengthy histories: Land Rover dates back to the 1940s, while Jaguar dates back to the 1930s. The two brands originally joined up in 1968 as a member of the British Leyland conglomerate, then again independently, and finally as BMW subsidiary (in the case of Land Rover) as well as Jaguar Motor Company (Ford). Following BMW’s 2000 breakup of the Rover Group, Ford Motor Company purchased Land Rover, which is now a part of its Premier Automotive Group.

Since its founding in 2008 as a holding company for the purchase of Jaguar Cars Limited and Land Rover Limited from Ford, Jaguar Land Rover has been a division of Tata Motors. The original holding company of Jaguar Land Rover Limited was rebranded as Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, and on January 1, 2013, the operations of Jaguar Cars Limited and Land Rover combined to become Jaguar Land Rover Limited.

A total of 374,636 Jaguar Land Rover vehicles were sold in the year that concluded on March 31, 2013. After surpassing Nissan as the largest automaker in the UK in 2016 with 489,923 units produced, Jaguar Land Rover took the lead.

The Wall Street Journal revealed in January 2014 that Jaguar Land Rover sold a record 425,006 cars in 2013 as demand for its high-end cars rose in all of the company’s key regions, including China, North America, and Europe.
