-

BAHAMAS – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to the Bahamas, their first official trip there, is part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Royal Central takes a look back at previous visits to the Bahamas by The Queen. She has visited the country five times in her reign, in 1966, 1975, 1977, 1985 and 1994.

The Bahamas has been a part of the Commonwealth for a long time and the Queens visit has always been something special there. And listed below are all the times the queen and duke made their appearances in this beautiful island.

1966

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh first visited the Bahamas from 27-28 February 1966 for a two-day visit that included a stop in Nassau.

The visit was part of a wider tour of the Caribbean, which lasted for the full month of February and saw The Queen also visit Barbados, British Guiana, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, and Jamaica.

1975 & 1977

The Queen next visited the Bahamas from 20-21 February 1975; and on her next visit, 19-20 October 1977, she officially opened Parliament as part of the Silver Jubilee Tour. Her Silver Jubilee Caribbean Tour continued through the rest of October, with visits to the British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Mustique and Barbados.

1985

The Queen next visited the Bahamas for the 8th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which took place from 16-22 October in Nassau. The Queen’s visit coincided with this, running from 11-18 October.

1994

The Queen’s most recent visit to the Bahamas came in 1994, when she visited from 6-March.
