The first Chinese language training program for disciplined forces’ launch, according to Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian, is a significant step toward fostering friendship and understanding between Chinese and Kenyan civilians. By adopting the Chinese language, Zhou continued, Kenya’s disciplined forces will serve as a conduit for fostering intercultural dialogue and reviving the two countries’ already strong bilateral relationship.
The first Chinese language training program, which was created in March through a collaboration between the Kenya Defense Forces School of Education and Languages and the University of Nairobi’s Confucius Institute, has already engaged 26 troops from a variety of cadres. The one-year program’s objectives are to increase Kenya’s disciplined forces’ fluency in Chinese, introduce them to the culture of the Asian country, and put them at the forefront of initiatives to promote cultural diplomacy.
The 26 military members will attend a one-year intensive Chinese language program from Monday through Friday in addition to making weekly trips to the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi to explore Chinese culture, including opera, calligraphy, and martial arts.
The soldiers will shortly enroll for level two by December after finishing up level one’s syllabus of the Chinese language proficiency training. They are anticipated to take the new HSK 3 Chinese Proficiency Test, and those who perform well will be qualified to continue their education in China.
The first Chinese language training program for the disciplined forces was launched, and Fredrick Leuria, the assistant chief of the KDF in charge of Operations, Planning, Doctrine, and Training, applauded it and said it will strengthen diplomatic relations between China and Kenya. Leuria urged service members to work toward becoming fluent in both spoken and written Mandarin because it will increase their employability in a workplace that is fast going global. Senior Kenyan military officials, cadets, and instructors were present for the launch.
