Malaysia Airlines has taken a bold step in elevating its brand visibility with the launch of a striking co-branded aircraft livery in collaboration with Manchester United, one of the world’s most recognized football clubs. This visually powerful partnership marks a significant milestone for both the aviation and sports industries, symbolizing a seamless fusion of national identity and global prestige.
The custom design, emblazoned across the airline’s flagship A330-300, was unveiled in April 2025. The aircraft’s livery features flowing red lines that transition from the Malaysian flag into Manchester United’s iconic red, representing unity, strength, and the shared passion that transcends borders. It’s a dynamic statement about the airline’s global aspirations and its deep connection to Malaysian Hospitality, which remains the cornerstone of its brand.
The launch event was nothing short of star-studded. Football legends Dimitar Berbatov, Nemanja Vidić, and Luís Nani were present at the MATTA Fair and participated in fan meet-and-greet sessions at the MAG Arena in Kuala Lumpur from April 18 to April 20. Their presence not only delighted fans but also highlighted the magnitude of this strategic partnership.
The partnership was initially announced in March 2024 and is set to run across multiple markets, including Malaysia, the UK, India, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. Through this venture, Malaysia Airlines hopes to leverage Manchester United’s massive global fanbase, which exceeds 1.1 billion, to expand its reach and enhance brand engagement across key regions.
As part of the initiative, Manchester United Maybank cardholders are being offered an exclusive 15% discount on Malaysia Airlines bookings made by 31 August 2025, for travel up to 30 September 2025. This perk aims to reward loyal fans while drawing them closer to both brands through special privileges.
Further solidifying its role in international sports tourism, Malaysia Airlines will fly the Manchester United team from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong for their upcoming Post-Season Tour, with friendly matches slated for May 28 and May 30, respectively. This move not only boosts regional tourism but also reinforces the airline’s commitment to connecting fans with unforgettable experiences.
Alongside the livery launch, Malaysia Airlines announced its return to Brisbane with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur starting 29 November 2025. Promo fares begin at RM 1,999 (approx. GBP 343) for Economy Class and RM 8,999 (approx. GBP 1,715) for Business Class, offering competitive rates as it re-establishes itself in the Australian market.
The airline is also boosting frequencies to several Asia-Pacific destinations including Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Surabaya, Phuket, and Trivandrum, enhancing regional connectivity for both business and leisure travelers. This expanded network reflects Malaysia Airlines’ strategic focus on being the gateway to Asia and beyond.
In a pioneering move for regional travel, the airline previewed its first-ever lie-flat Business Class seats on the Boeing 737-10, part of its plan to operate 55 737-8 and 737-10 aircraft by 2030. These seats aim to offer premium comfort on shorter routes, further aligning the fleet with Malaysia Airlines’ reputation for delivering exceptional service.
To provide greater flexibility to passengers, the carrier also announced updates to its Economy Class fare tiers. The new Economy Value tier now includes 7kg cabin baggage, 20kg checked baggage, complimentary meals, and booking flexibility for a small fee—enhancing the travel experience without compromising value.
Additionally, Malaysia Airlines continues to innovate with EnrichMoney, its multi-currency e-wallet and Visa prepaid card. A new feature allows users to pay with EnrichMoney Points via DuitNow QR, the first of its kind in Malaysia. From 18 April to 31 May 2025, users can enjoy up to RM5 off their purchases, turning frequent flyer points into real-world savings.
Malaysia Airlines’ presence at the MATTA Fair 2025 was bolstered by its partnership with Google, where visitors explored tools like the AI-powered Trip Itinerary Builder and Veo2, a unique image-to-video converter, adding a tech-forward edge to travel planning.
Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail summed it up best: “This marks a bold new chapter for Malaysia Airlines. Our partnership with Manchester United is more than a branding exercise—it’s a fusion of two legacies rooted in excellence and global ambition.”
Malaysia Airlines is redefining modern travel through its strategic expansions, refreshed product offerings, and unique sports collaboration, all while proudly flying the Malaysian flag around the world.
