Male, Maldives (CU)_ The Maldives received another shipment of Covid-19 vaccine doses this week from the United States. According to a press statement released by the United States Mission to the Maldives, the US government delivered an additional 100,620 doses of the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine to Maldives, adding to the roughly 120,000 doses supplied earlier. With the current donation, the United States has contributed approximately 229,000 doses to Maldives to assist the island nation’s immunization effort.
The additional cargo was supplied in collaboration with the Maldivian government and in concert with the COVAX facility in order to rebuild a better world. According to the United States Mission to the Maldives, the vaccine donation adds to the US government’s continuous leadership in global immunization efforts as the leading donor to COVAX, which is the global vaccine access project.

According to Martin Kelly, the US’ Chargé d’Affaires to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, the US government appreciates the Maldivian government for its tireless attempts in vaccinating all of its citizens in every island in order to protect its population and that collaborative efforts to safeguard the close ones from the pandemic are critical to put an end to the pandemic, thereby promoting economic recovery across the nation and beyond.
According to the statement, this reflects President Joe Biden administration’s efforts to end the pandemic, reducing its harmful social and economic consequences, and confirming that the world is ready for future outbreaks. The statement further noted that the US has thus far contributed and delivered over 300 million safe and effective vaccines to nearly 100 countries in order to save lives and protect mankind, regardless of the pandemic’s unprecedented scale, speed, and complexity.
US authorities have collaborated closely with the Maldives’ government to address the challenges posed by the pandemic. The US has also donated more than USD seven million worth of emergency goods, training, and crucial services, as well as 60 ventilators. Maldives was one of the first nations to get vaccines as part of the United States’ Global Covid Vaccine Sharing initiative.
