Maruti Suzuki Alto Exceeds… in India

-

Automobile, India (Common Wealth) _ Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) stated today that the Alto entry-level hatchback has sold 45 lakh units in the domestic market, a significant milestone. The most sold car in Indian motor history has entrenched its status for decades, and it has developed over the years to fulfill customer demands. It is currently one of India’s most feature-rich affordable hatchbacks, and the Alto K10 brand made a comeback last year.

It has dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD, front power windows, electronic power steering, AMT gearbox options, and bi-fuel technology to provide buyers with a variety of alternatives. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, commented on the new milestone, saying, “Over the past two decades, brand Alto has established a strong emotional connect with our customers.”

We are ecstatic about the Alto’s fantastic voyage. Achieving the 45 lakh client milestone demonstrates our consumers’ continued support and faith in us. It’s a feat that no other automotive company has accomplished to yet.”

The first generation Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 hit the market around the turn of the 2000 and was so well welcomed that it quickly became India’s best-selling automobile. After more than two decades, the new K10 is powered by a 1.0L Dual Jet Dual VVT petrol engine and comes with a seven-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Alto has been a reliable choice for consumers due to its easy maneuverability in traffic, great fuel efficiency, low cost of maintenance, and, most importantly, affordability. It is popular among first-time purchasers as well as those looking for a second vehicle for daily drive. The Alto series hit the 20 lakh sales milestone in 2012, and the next 10 lakh units were only four years away. After another four years, the country’s largest automaker increased its production by ten lakhs.

The first-generation Alto K10 was released in 2010, with the second version following in 2014. The current K10 is a significant improvement over its predecessors. The Maruti Brezza was the best-selling SUV in the Indian market in July 2023, with 16,543 units sold. Only 9,709 units of the small SUV were sold in July 2022, representing a year-on-year sales increase of 70.39 percent last month. The Hyundai Creta comes next, with 14,062 units sold last month. This equates to an 11.38 percent increase in sales year on year.

Another Maruti SUV, the Fronx, comes in third place. Maruti Fronx, which was launched only a few months ago, has already sold 13,220 units. The Tata Nexon takes the fourth rank, with 12,349 units sold in July 2023, representing a 13.12% YoY decline in sales. The Nexon’s sales appear to have plummeted in preparation of the release of the facelift model, which is slated to arrive before the holiday season this year.
