Prince Charles posted on his official Clarence House accounts that 4 August is also the birthday of his beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the mother of Queen Elizabeth II.

Born in Hitchin, United Kingdom, in 1900, Elizabeth went on to marry Prince Albert, Duke of York in 1923. Three years later, the couple welcomed their first daughter, who was affectionately nicknamed Lilibet, the name chosen by the Sussexes for their daughter. In 1936 Albert was coronated as King George VI, and her wife became the Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions. She was also the last Empress of India until the country gained independence from Britain in 1947.

On Wednesday, Prince Charles dedicated a Twitter thread to his grandmother, in which he shared several portraits of the elder Elizabeth, which were displayed next to a silver vase that was gifted to her on her 100th birthday. The Prince of Wales also shared a photo of himself in his teenage years, alongside his grandmother and sister Princess Anne, as well as Prince Andrew, who was an infant. The Queen Mother died on 30 March, 2002, at the age of 101.
