(CWBN)_ Mercedes won the constructors’ title for a record seventh consecutive time, as drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, finished first and second respectively, at the Emilia Romagna GP yesterday (Nov 1).

Mercedes had previously shared the record with Italian team Ferrari, which had won six straight titles between 1998 and 2004.

Even though Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who overtook Hamilton at the start, it appeared to be a real threat to the Mercedes duo, however, he suffered a tire failure and ended up facing the wrong way on the track.

Meanwhile, Bottas also suffered damage to his car after a large piece of Ferrari debris was trapped in his barge boards behind the front wheels, costing at least 0.5 secs a lap, which made way for his teammate to take the lead.

Hamilton, who is 85 points clear of Bottas, is expected to win the title at the Turkish Grand Prix on 15th November.

“It was an exhausting race, the speed we were having to go after a poor start. It is very overwhelming right now. I look at my crew and I know all the men and women here and back in the factory and they are the unsung heroes,” the Briton, who won the 93rd race of his career, said.

Mercedes Team Principle, Toto Wolff, also celebrated the achievement. “This is something to be proud of. We have a group that is just amazing together, we have stayed together and pushed the benchmark to new levels,” Wolff said.

Sunday’s race was the third Grand Prix held in Italy this season after the races were rescheduled owing to the pandemic.
