Ontario, Ontario (CU)_ The long-anticipated plans for the mega project to reconstruct and expand Trillium Health Partners’ Mississauga Hospital were recently unveiled by the premier and Ontario’s health minister. The renovation and expansion of two hospital sites in Mississauga and Etobicoke were revealed last month in the Fall Economic Statement. However, further details about the hospital projects were announced recently during a Mississauga press conference. The Mississauga Hospital, located at 100 Queensway West, will be completely renovated, and a new patient tower will be built at the second location in Etobicoke.
Premier Doug Ford expressed pride over the huge project. He released a statement saying, “This investment represents the largest hospital renewal plan in Ontario’s history”. He added, “This pandemic has reminded us of the importance of having ready access to hospital beds when they’re needed most. Our government will never waver in our efforts to protect our progress by delivering modern hospitals with more beds to meet the needs of our growing communities today and for generations to come.”
Trillium Health Partners now manages two hospitals in Mississauga, namely Credit Valley Hospital and Mississauga Hospital, with a total bed capacity of over 1,000. According to the ministry, the renovated Mississauga Hospital will have one of the biggest emergency departments in the province, as well as an increase in the number of operating rooms and the installation of over 350 new beds.
Karli Farrow, the president and CEO of Trillium Health Partners, expressed confidence over the high quality service delivered by the hospital. He released a statement saying, “The redevelopment and expansion projects at THP will ensure we have the modern facilities and much-needed capacity to deliver high quality, exceptional care to this community for generations to come”.
