AFRICA ( Commonwealth Union) _  The traditional head of Obudu, His Royal Majesty Uti (Dr) Joseph Davies Agba, one of Nigeria’s notable traditional rulers, passed away, leaving the country in sadness. The deceased had been in power for 64 years, making him perhaps Africa’s longest-reigning traditional monarch. Given his status as a king, the immediate family has yet to reveal the specifics of his funeral.

His son, Kjay Jedy-Agba, made the announcement of Davies-Agba’s passing on Sunday in Calabar, the state capital of Cross River. The late traditional leader is often recognized as Nigeria’s longest-serving monarch, having ruled for 64 years. Goddy Jedy Agba, the minister of state for power, was his son.

His Royal Majesty, Joseph Davies-Agba, OON, the “Uti Item III of Utugwang,” the “Uti Ukani I of Obudu,” the Paramount Ruler of Obudu Local Government Area, and Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, passed away, the statement reads. He assumed his position on the traditional royal throne 64 years ago, making him arguably Africa’s longest-serving traditional ruler. Given his status as a monarch, we, the immediate relatives, might not be aware of all the specifics of his ultimate funeral etiquette. However, We are obligated to uphold our culture’s traditions in all activities leading up to his final obsequies.

As soon as the customary procedures are complete, according to Jedy-Agba, information about the funeral will be made public. He stated that it is my sincere wish that your hearts stay with us in prayers, as difficult as this time is for the family. The late monarch served as Cross River State University (UNICROSS) chancellor until his passing. However, it is notified that once the traditional institution had finished, the details of the funeral would be made public.
