England (Commonwealth Union)_ The supply chains of DP World’s clients will be more resilient and will be able to move volumes quickly and easily between the two UK sites thanks to a new intermodal rail service linking the company’s container ports in Southampton and London Gateway. The DP World service, which began last weekend and runs every Saturday, is planning to transport cargo, such as fresh produce, drinks, and consumer items, in less than five hours. Up to 120 lorries are removed from the road each week by the train, which reduces carbon emissions by up to 80%.

The frequency of the train will be increased by DP World in 2023. With a total of 300,000 trucks removed from the road, this will relieve highway congestion together with other recent and ongoing improvements in rail connection at both ports.

“DP World is unique in giving clients a choice of deep-water entry and departure locations to and from the UK, our clients will be able to swap quantities swiftly and simply between the two locations thanks to this new train service, which implies more flexibility and options,” said John Trenchard, UK Commercial & Supply Chain Director. “Shipping lines and cargo owners are searching for capacity, dependability, and expansion possibilities in the wake of the recent disruption. We are offering it, allowing clients to move goods in and out of the UK and throughout their supply chains easily and effectively,” Trenchard continued.

The most advanced logistics hubs in the UK are run by DP World at London Gateway and Southampton, two deep water ports with access to freight rail terminals and a rapidly growing logistics park right outside of the capital. DP World operates ports, terminals, and logistics businesses across six continents. With a combined total of 1.93 million TEU, they moved a record amount of cargo in the first half of the year.
