Mr Geoffrey Van Orden CBE and MEP arrived in Colombo as Chief Guest for the official launch of the commonwealth media portal and website, recently at the Victorian Kingsbury Colombo. It was a glittering ceremony with media personnel, corporates and advertising professionals gracing the occasion.

Addressing the guests, The Publisher Hon Nirj Deva Adittya reflected on his experiences as MEP in the European Union which made him think for the hotelier why the Commonwealth nations were not as deeply engaged with each other. The diverse nature of the Commonwealth spanning 56 nations and 2.6 Billion people to which Mr. Deva Adittya emphasized could work together on a voluntary basis with multiple organizations the Commonwealth Union will be launching that will be working together on a voluntary basis with each other to expand opportunities.  Some of these organizations include the Commonwealth Hotels Association, Commonwealth Cricket Association, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, commonwealth Ports and Airports association and many more.

Mr. Chandra Mohotti, in charge of the Commonwealth Hotels Association addressed the gathering with highlights of the opportunities available to members who wish to join the Commonwealth Hotels Association. A Loyalty Card to frequent travellers to avail preferential rates and benefits, common processes and procedures adopted, cross training of staff in best practice for the hoteliers etc

Mr. Geoffrey Van Orden, Former Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament,emphasized on the common values of the Commonwealth and the need to maintain them in a modern age.
