AFRICA ( Commonwealth Union) _ Amado Cerrud, the president of the Central American Parliament, has been invited by Chief Fortune Charumbira, the president of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), to attend the PAP’s forthcoming session in Midrand, South Africa. Between May 15 and June 2, the Second Plenary Session of the Sixth Parliament and the Third Pan-African Summit of Parliaments on Climate Policy and Equity will be held.

The invitation was confirmed by Chief Charumbira, who added that its goal was to improve connections between the two organizations on a bilateral basis. By creating a Parliamentary Friendship Association, twinning PAP Committees with Committees of the Central American Parliament, and holding collaborative capacity-building programs, the visit aims to deepen bilateral ties between the Central American Parliament and PAP.

At the Climate Summit of African Parliaments, which is being held in conjunction with the Pan-African Alliance for Climate Justice, Mr. Cerrud will be the guest speaker and is anticipated to present his Parliament’s proposal for the establishment of the Afro-Latin American Assembly in collaboration with the PAP.

The Central American Integration System, an economic and political organization of Central America formed in 1993, has a permanent regional body of democratic and political representation known as the Central American Parliament. The six Latin American nations that make up the PARLACEN are the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, and Guatemala. As observers, Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Morocco are seated in PARLACEN.

Chief Charumbira travelled to Kenya last week as part of a professional trip, where he met President William Ruto and members of the parliament. Mr. Moses discussed methods to strengthen partnerships to achieve the African agenda, including regional integration, economic growth, and peace and security, during his meeting with the Speaker of the nation’s National Assembly.
