While addressing the media before the start of the 2025 Winter Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that the session is essential for infusing new energy into the nation’s rapid progress toward a developed India. He asserted that India has always reflected the vibrancy of its democratic traditions and added that the record turnout with fast-increasing women’s participation in the recent Bihar elections was a powerful affirmation of democratic strength and economic capability.
The Prime Minister called upon all political parties to make the session reflect national interest, constructive debate and policy-driven outcomes. He invited the Opposition to discharge their democratic duty by raising meaningful and substantive issues and warned them against any temptation to let frustration over electoral defeats cloud their behaviour in the proceedings. He told them that there should be a sense of balance, responsibility, and dignity, not arrogance, in electoral victories.
Shri Modi stressed the need for informed debate as a means of carrying better information to the citizens: Parliament is meant for policy and delivery, not drama or slogan shouting. Shri Modi said he was also worried when first-time and younger MPs were not getting sufficient opportunities and asked parties to ensure their insight and energy benefit the nation.
The PM also spoke to the special significance of the session, which marked the beginning of the new Chairman’s guidance of the Upper House. He said GST reforms have created strong public trust and that the session is set to advance several important initiatives. Expressing concern over recent parliamentary trends, he said Parliament should not be used merely as a “warm-up ground for elections or as a place to vent frustration after electoral defeat,” urging a different approach from all parties. He concluded by assuring the nation about the country’s determined march toward progress.
