Powering Jamaica’s development through technology

 collaboration with the Jamgooglers, a group of over 100 people of Jamaica origin who are employed at Google. The group was formed with the objective of creating a sense of belonging for the diaspora community and promoting the development of technological skills among Jamaicans at home and abroad.

The meeting on Thursday will feature outstanding Jamaican tech entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, including Kevin Reid, co-founder at investment firm Blue Lagoon Capital. He is also the former co-founder CEO and CTO of VirtuStream, a cloud computing company based in McLean, Virginia.

Andrew Walker, the convener of the Jamgooglers, who will also be joining the event noted that the group hopes this connection will help enable circles such as theirs to expand their contribution to the digital development of Jamaica. “We are a ‘little but tallawah’ group that cares deeply about Jamaica and its future,” he added. 

Sharing her views regarding the event Ambassador Marks said the purpose of focusing on Jamaicans in technology is to highlight the transformative developments that are being carried out by members of the Jamaican diaspora involved in the technology sector.

Dr. Lloyd Carney, the Chief Acquisition Officer at Carney Technology Acquisition Corp will also be among those present at the meeting. He is an active contributor to the Silicon Valley Start-up Common (SVSC), which is includes a group of investors, entrepreneurs and mentors who assist start-ups to get off the ground and grow.

The significance of the town hall is that it provide members of the diaspora community with an opportunity to speak directly with the Ambassador regarding matter that are of interest to them and those which could be updated on the Embassy’s activities.
