Europe, UK (Commonwealth Union) – A new law to hand in zombie knives is said to be introduced that will affect zombie-style knives. The zombie knife together with machetes are said to be included in this.

This will be initiated from 24 September, where owning zombie-style knives and machetes will be illegal, as these weapons will join the list of prohibited dangerous items, which already includes zombie knives, butterfly knives, Samurai swords, and push daggers.

In anticipation of the upcoming ban, authorities are encouraging individuals who possess these weapons to surrender them in a safe and legal manner.

A four-week amnesty will take place at police stations across England and Wales, running from 26 August to 23 September. During this period, people can hand in these potentially dangerous knives without facing any penalties.

The government indicated that additionally, individuals can dispose of these weapons anonymously by using secure surrender bins or by contacting their local police, council, or anti-knife crime organizations to explore other disposal options available in their area.

From 24 September onwards anyone found to be in possession of a zombie-style knife or machete will face imprisonment.

Policing Minister Diana Johnson indicated that far too many individuals have access to weapons that can cause catastrophic, life-altering harm, further indicated that there is no justifiable reason for such weapons to be present in our homes or on our streets.

“It is absolutely crucial that members of the public come forward and safely hand in these weapons. We are offering people the chance to do the right thing – to help make our streets safer, prevent further loss of life and save so many futures.”

Police stations involved in the program are located throughout the country. Individuals have been urged to first reach out to their assigned station for instructions on safely packaging and delivering any weapons. Those in possession of such items have been told to consult the government’s guidelines to locate their nearest participating station and to learn more about how to surrender the weapons.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to reduce knife crime by 50% within ten years. Future measures will include additional bans, stricter regulations on online sales, and decisive actions to prevent young people from getting involved in criminal activities.
