(Commonwealth_ CHOGM) In a significant gathering at Tafa’igata yesterday, the Samoa Police, Prisons, and Corrections Services (SPPCS) held a welcoming ceremony to mark the arrival of international partners who will bolster security operations for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for next week. This occasion underlines the pledge to collaborative efforts among Pacific and international law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the safety and success of this significant global summit.

As part of the security contingent, officers from the Fiji Police are among the nearly 1,500 law enforcement personnel from various nations in the region who are set to support the Samoa Police Service in its operations. This collective effort reflects the region’s dedication to maintaining a secure environment for delegates and dignitaries.

The ceremony featured a poignant address by Reverend Siaosi Salesulu, who emphasized the themes of unity, professionalism, and strength. His message resonated deeply with attendees, highlighting the importance of collaboration as Samoa and its partners prepare to host one of the most significant international events on the global stage. Reverend Salesulu also offered words of encouragement and blessings, reinforcing the significance of the occasion for both Samoa and the broader Pacific community.

Minister of Police Faualo Harry Schuster recognized the substantial efforts made by all parties in preparing for this historic event. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the unified security forces to effectively address the challenges that may arise during CHOGM. His remarks highlighted the importance of thorough preparation and cooperation in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the meeting.

As CHOGM 2024 approaches, the SPPCS stands ready to deliver comprehensive security support, with a robust framework in place to safeguard the interests of all delegates. The event not only showcases Samoa’s hospitality but also serves as a testament to the strength of regional partnerships in addressing common security challenges.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by representatives from several Pacific nations and international partners, including delegations from Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Cook Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Tonga, and Kiribati. Additionally, key law enforcement support organizations such as the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC), the Pacific Police Support Group (PPSG), Aviation Security (AVSEC), and Samoa’s auxiliary officers were present, further solidifying the commitment to regional collaboration.

This gathering exemplifies the spirit of cooperation that underpins the security measures for CHOGM, showcasing the collective dedication to ensuring a successful and secure event. As preparations continue, the collaboration and unity demonstrated by all partners serve as a powerful reminder of the shared vision for excellence at CHOGM 2024.
