Active Covid-19 patients are treated with blood plasma from those that have cured from Covid-19. The fatal second wave of the virus struck India in early April, and as of the month end, the number of cases had risen to over 300,000 per day. The unprecedented infection has suppressed India’s healthcare system, with patients and their families struggling for hospital beds, oxygen tanks, and blood plasma, and other necessities across the country.

Tendulkar, who retired from his cricket career as the top Test and ODI scorer, last month tested positive for Covid-19. He was admitted to the hospital for precaution and has now recovered completely. Tendulkar said on his birthday video on April 24 that he remembered what the doctors told him when he was recovering from Covid-19. He said, “If plasma can be given at the right time, patients can recover faster. I will donate (blood plasma) when permissible. I have spoken with the doctors. Those of you who have recovered from Covid-19 can speak with the doctors, and when permissible please donate your blood”.
