Kabul, Afghanistan (CWBN)_ The Afghan Parliament summoned Security Council officials to clarify the rising tension in the Helmand Province. As Afghan-Taliban negotiations stagnated last week, following the parties’ disagreements on two main articles of interest on religion and the Taliban-US Agreement, and militants’ demands to impose Hanafi Jurisprudence, violence ensued across Helmand region for about five days.

Interestingly, MP Shinkai Karokhil, said that Pakistani nationals are fighting alongside the Taliban forces.

Reports were made by the Government that a special operation was launched by Afghan commandos with regard to the 601 Highway with the use of air support on the 12th, but the details of the matter have not been released at this time. However, a separate report stated that the two MI-17 helicopter used in the operation crashed from apparent “technical failures”, leaving nine dead, in Nawa, Helmand.

Moreover, 16 security forces have been killed in the fighting as of yesterday, while 10 others have been wounded, in Gozargah-e-Noor, Baghlan Province.

CWBN reported on the 13th that the US Forces have been assisting Afghan military operations over, in defence of outposts on the borders of Lashkar Gah with multiple air raids over the course of two days. These targeted strikes appear to continue against the relentless Taliban advance.
