LONDON, UK (CWBN)_ The Prime Minister’s Director of Communications, Lee Cain, announced that he would be resigning from his position by the end of December, although he was offered the position of Chief of Staff, as in-fighting broke out in Downing Street amidst the ongoing battle over Brexit and the post-Brexit trade deal.

PM Boris Johnson never appointed a chief of staff since he was propped into his seat by a member vote in 2019, but the functionary roles were played by Dominic Cummings.

Although, Cain was appointed to the position in mid-July, he played a serious role in support of Brexit, leading up to the referendum in 2016 and held the position of Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs under Theresa May, before supporting Johnson, alongside Cummings.

Although speculations have been raised as to the future of other Downing Street aides, Cummings and the PM’s Chief Brexit Negotiator, David Frost, are expected to stay put. Moreover, a serious reorganisation is expected to be carried out in Downing Street and former BBC journalist, Allegra Stratton, will be taking on the role left behind by Cain.

Reportedly, Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Private Members’ Committee, Charles Walker has told BBC that there has been “far too much intrigue” at Downing Street, leading to frustrations within the party.
