(Commonwealth Union)_ This month, Lufthansa Cargo is commemorating 10 years of using IBS Software to modernize its international air cargo company. According to a press statement from IBS Software, “Over the last ten years, IBS Software and Lufthansa Cargo have successfully collaborated to build a modern, agile, and innovation-focused business, founded on the strong foundation of iCargo, IBS’ market-leading cargo platform.”

According to the announcement, the relationship was established when Lufthansa Cargo decided to replace the Mosaik mainframe system, which served as its primary IT platform, in 2012. IBS Software was chosen after a thorough market search that involved evaluating 400+ possible vendors and partners. This was a 30-year-old legacy technology that constituted the nerve center of its business; altering it was deemed an undertaking of tremendous complexity and danger.

In addition to immediately improving Lufthansa Cargo’s operational core dramatically, IBS Software also helped to further integrate its IT environment by adding more apps to the iCargo umbrella. More than 300 worldwide sites across the Lufthansa Cargo network and its key hubs in Europe, including the Frankfurt mega-hub, were a part of the incredibly complicated transformation initiative known as iCAP.

With improved web-enabled features that optimize operations, boost profitability, and provide scalability, iCAP’s integrated solution serves the needs of the airlines’ freight business. The system assists freighters, ground handling agents (GHAs), and airports in managing the rising quantities of cargo transit requirements.

In 2020, Lufthansa switched to a complete SaaS (Software as a Service) model of software delivery for iCargo, giving IBS Software full ownership of hosting and maintaining Lufthansa Cargo’s iCAP platform. This step was made possible by the success of the project’s initial phase. Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo, Dorothea von Boxberg, said: “IBS has been a significant partner in assisting us in navigating our journey toward digitalisation over the years”, from the replacement of outdated IT systems to the establishment of the digital fulfillment sector and the creation of more extensive IT solutions, which are currently the cornerstone of our IT operations.
