(Commonwealth) _ Singapore has always been a leader in the maritime industry, constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability. In April 2021, Singapore welcomed its first bunker tanker equipped with a battery energy system – a significant milestone for the country and the industry.

The vessel, named “Marine Vicky,” was delivered by Sembcorp Marine to Singapore-based bunker supplier Sinanju Tankers Holdings. The tanker is fitted with a 2,600 kWh battery pack, which powers the vessel’s propulsion and auxiliary systems. The battery energy system reduces the bunker tanker’s carbon emissions and enhances its energy efficiency.

For Singapore’s bunkering sector, which is in charge of providing gasoline to ships that call at the nation’s port, The Marine Vicky is a game-changer. The vessel’s battery energy technology is anticipated to lower Sinanju Tankers’ carbon emissions by up to 25%. This represents a significant advancement in Singapore’s ambition to cut greenhouse gas emissions and aid in the worldwide fight against climate change.
