PORT EDWARD (CU)_Back in 2014, the government of South Africa granted an oil and gas exploration permit to Impact Africa, a subsidiary of London-based Impact Oil & Gas. However, just a year ago, fossil fuel giant Shell acquired a 50 per cent interest in the venture, while the remaining 50 per cent was held by Impact Africa. Under the permit, Shell is now expected to launch its oil and gas exploration survey off the coast of Eastern Cape in December, which has attracted opposition from environmentalist, fishers and local communities.
