that the guy, cited in ICC documents as Mr W, was interested in fixing matches, or aspects of matches, and that he tried involving Zoysa on board because being a coach, he very well knew the players and will be able to convince them to fix matches.

The ICC judgement stated, “At (Mr W)’s request, Mr Zoysa approached (Player A) late in 2017 and asked him whether, in connection with Sri Lanka’s then upcoming series against Bangladesh and/or Zimbabwe, he would be willing to give away 12-15 runs in an over while bowling, or to get out deliberately when batting”. He added, “Mr Zoysa told (Player A) that he could get good money if he under-performed in this way. (Player A) immediately refused that approach and told Mr Zoysa that he wouldn’t agree to do that”.

The panel found Zoysa guilty of breaking rules relating to attempting to rig matches, inducing others to break the code of conduct, and failing to disclose unethical persons, after full hearings and arguments. The ICC has also charged Zoysa on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board for violating three rules of the ECB Anti-Corruption Code in relation to the T10 League.
