USA (Commonwealth Union)_ As part of the Independence Day celebrations of the Indian American community in the USA, a series of events have been arranged by the diaspora community. Accordingly, renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, along with Indian actresses Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Jacqueline Fernandez, will take center stage at an annual parade organized by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New England to commemorate India’s independence day later this month.
The FIA has chosen the theme “Mission of Life” for this year’s parade, representing the values and aspirations guiding both the nation and individuals. According to the FIA, “The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Mission of Life’, symbolizing the values and aspirations that guide our path as a nation and as individuals.” Further, the organization announced that Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the esteemed yoga guru and spiritual guide, will headline the procession for the 41st India Day Parade scheduled for August 20 in Manhattan. Additionally, Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez will hold the role of Guest of Honor, while South Indian Samantha Ruth Prabhu will assume the role of Chief Guest at the parade, which will wind through Madison Avenue.
The annual parade, which will be held in the heart of New York City, serves as a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage and diversity. As members of the Indian-American community and the diaspora come together, Madison Avenue becomes adorned with Indian attire, flags, and banners, embodying the festive spirit of India’s independence day. The parade showcases an array of dance performances, musical acts, theatrical displays, and authentic Indian cuisines from various regions, along with traditional crafts, textiles, and art.
Encouraging diaspora participation in the festivities, the FIA invited all to commemorate the progress and growth of modern India, focusing on missions ranging from education and healthcare to environmental sustainability. The parade aims to highlight India’s global role in pursuing peace, cooperation, and international camaraderie. The FIA said, “Celebrate the progress and growth of modern India as we work towards various missions, from education and healthcare to environmental sustainability. Explore India’s role on the global stage and its mission for peace, cooperation, and international friendship”.
A significant feature of this year’s parade will be a dedicated pavilion spotlighting Millets, super grains promoted for a health-conscious and sustainable lifestyle, underscoring the celebration’s multifaceted nature. The FIA said, “This is a grand celebration of India’s rich culture, diversity, and the wholesome goodness of millets”. As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the FIA will also organize a special event named ‘Gala on the Hudson,’ featuring a cruise adorned with singers, celebrities, and cultural performances to commemorate the occasion in style.
