Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ In 1999, Founder Chairman Tony Bohoran established Raffles with a vision to create a brand known for unparalleled excellence in Sri Lanka’s banquet and catering industry. As Raffles marks its 24th year, it stands as a benchmark, serving corporates, food enthusiasts, and offering industrial catering solutions. Despite facing challenges, including the recent economic crisis, Raffles has demonstrated resilience and achieved a robust rebound.

The past year saw Raffles successfully sustaining its business operations, experiencing a strong turnaround by the end of the 2023 financial year. Cafe by Raffles, introduced during the pandemic, has become a favored service, especially among financial and IT corporates in Colombo.

Reflecting on the journey, Tony Bohoran expressed joy at witnessing his vision come to life. Starting from a modest space with one employee, Raffles has grown to include 600 skilled and dedicated employees. Raffles Residence, their present headquarters, features two luxurious banquet halls, capable of hosting 300 and 100 guests, respectively.

Tony emphasized Raffles’ commitment to innovation, dedication, professionalism, excellence, quality, and value. These principles have allowed Raffles to adapt and thrive in a competitive industry while maintaining lasting customer relationships. Tony’s passion for innovation led to ventures like Teaser, a popular ready-to-drink beverage.

As Raffles approaches its 25th year in November 2024, the theme of ‘Exploration’ defines its journey. The company is set to explore new segments and spaces in the hospitality industry, particularly in hospitality management, with a focus on hotels and restaurants. Newly appointed CEO Upul Gamage, with over four decades of hospitality experience, will navigate this new direction, aligning with Raffles’ bold ventures.

Gamage expressed excitement about joining Raffles at this pivotal point, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to excellence. The company aims to enter the hospitality industry by developing management capabilities, starting with a 40-room hotel in Dambulla. Raffles is considering a potential IPO, signaling a new milestone in its journey.

As Raffles embarks on new adventures, it remains loyal to its core values, delivering excellence without compromise. The brand’s legacy, built by Tony Bohoran, will continue to grow and set standards in the hospitality industry.
