Student from Indian sets a landmark victory at Oxford!

crowned the winner. The Cherwell student newspaper reported that Anvee Bhutani had used her manifesto to outline goals of lobbying for the adoption of the Oxford living wage, delinking welfare facilities and disciplinary action, and diversifying the curriculum.

Anvee’s victorious election manifesto reads as follows: “Use suggestions from student campaigns to work with initiatives like the Oxford and Colonialism hub to push for a more diverse curriculum”. It also highlights, “Lobby for more funding towards existing mental health support programs including for graduate students; work towards more access and lower wait times for university counselling services”.

With 11 students racing for the position, the leadership race had the most candidates ever in an Oxford Student Union President election. The byelection was held in response to the resignation of Indian student Rashmi Samant. She was forced to resign shortly after being elected to the role in February due to a controversy over her previous social media posts.
