The new weapons law in Ottawa might include airsoft guns

Canada_ (Commonwealth) _ The new gun regulation in Canada may put an end to both the pastime and the business of air-powered imitation weapons that fire plastic pellets. In its initial form, Bill C-21 was intended to outlaw handguns. Ottawa has also said that the ban may also apply to the import, export, and sale of illegal reproductions that resemble contemporary weaponry.

If the measure is enacted, many of the items at Ken Cheung’s business, 007 Airsoft, in Calgary, which he has owned and operated for the past 25 years, will be deemed to be too realistic under the law.

“I’ve been doing this for the last many, many years, so if my business is done, then my livelihood is finished. That’s how I provide for my family. It’s a difficult concept to grasp, ” he added.

It has been a nerve-wracking wait, according to Cheung, to learn which kind of airsoft weapons, if any, will be spared from the law. Sci-fi weapons from anime, manga, and movies, for instance, “would theoretically be excluded,” the guy claimed.

“They still resemble a genuine firearm of some sort, though, in general. So, drawing the line is quite difficult. They would have to be very specific about what is permitted and what is not.”

Champoux noted that Ottawa wants to make sure the ban on the import, export, and sale of any unlicensed reproductions that resemble contemporary guns applies to all of them. According to Cheung, airsoft has become more popular in Canada. Some airsoft players are concerned that the federal weapons prohibition would put an end to their pastime.

Connor Parnham, an airsoft fan from Calgary, noted that while gun control is important, it must be somewhat exercised when it becomes excessive. These objects weigh less than.20 grams, so even if they do cause pain, it doesn’t last very long.
