They are struggling to meet soaring demand…

carmakers are now announcing delays in supply of several popular models. For instance, Volkswagen Australia has revealed that there will be delays in the supply of its Tiguan 162TSI, Mark 8 Golf hatchback and Golf GTI. According to Michael Bartsch, Managing Director Volkswagen Group Australia, while there is a short supply of some models, VGA continues to offer customers with an array of choices.

“While the semiconductor shortage poses no significantly greater issue than those our brands deal with on a weekly basis, it’s important that customers are made aware of them,” he said. “While certain of our popular variants are temporarily in short supply, VGA is in a position to offer customers an array of choices. The situation is subject to rapid change. We are in daily contact with head offices to seek means of improving the supply of affected variants.”

However, the German motor vehicle manufacturer is not the only brand dealing with supply issues. Carmakers across the globe are severely affected, with GM and Ford announcing that they have stopped fitting stop-start features in some of its cars in the US. According to Kia Australia’s Chief Operating Officer Damien Meredith, this shortage in semiconductors means that buyers are getting tired of waiting and as a result, the carmaker is expecting a loss of about 20 per cent of possible sales.
