Thiruvananthapuram, India (CU)_ Following the lift of travel limitations imposed as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, the number of travelers and volume of aviation traffic at Thiruvananthapuram international airport has surged dramatically. This summer, the number of flights operating from Thiruvananthapuram airport to Maldives has also increased. Additionally, Maldivian Airlines has also restored flight service to the island of Hanimaadhoo.
According to authorities, the number of flight services to Male will be expanded to five days per week starting May 29. Two weekly flights would be operated to Hanimaadhoo islands. On Sundays and Thursdays, the flights would arrive at 2.40 am in Thiruvananthapuram and depart at 3.40 am.
The flight service to Male is now offered on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. According to the latest schedule, the new service will begin operations on Wednesdays and Sundays as well. The flight will land at 4.15 pm and depart at 5.15 pm. The new initiative will help Maldivian patients seeking medical care in Kerala. In addition, residents from Kerala and Tamil Nadu who are employed in the Maldives, as well as tourists, would benefit from these new services.
The airport handled 1,20,000 people in March 2022, which is a considerable increase compared to the 67,919 passengers in April 2021. During the first few days of April, the average number of foreign travelers per day surpassed 4000. The current carriers operating from Thiruvananthapuram include Air India Express, Air Arabia, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Salam Air, Fly Dubai, Indigo, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Maldivian Airways, Scoot, and Sri Lankan Airlines.
