London, UK (CWBN)_ While most areas of Britain are having lockdowns eased to their lowest degree, the restrictions in the Midlands and Northern regions have been intensified by introducing a Tier III lockdown. The lockdown in the Midlands largely applies to Liverpool, whereas the surrounding areas have been classified as Tier II, which includes Leicester and Leeds.

In the case of Wales and Scotland, special restrictions have been imposed with central Scotland having reported over 3.4 million infections. The central belt, inclusive of Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Forth Valley, Lothian, Ayrshire and Arran and Lanarkshire will face the highest degree of restrictions.

Currently the UK reports a slow rise in the number of infection with 17,232 new infections recorded yesterday. This brings the total of infections to over 635,000 and the number of deaths stand at 43,018.

The authorities stated that the three tier system, is divided into the levels of alerts that is to be adhered to by the local communities. During the Tier I (general alert) lockdown, which is the lowest alert level, where the rule-of-six shall apply, meaning that people may only congregate in groups of six. Two meter distance must maintained when around persons from other households. Masks must be worn in community spaces or public transport. Restaurants and pubs are required to close at 10pm.

During a Tier II lockdown (high alert), the rules above shall also apply, however indoor social gatherings are prohibited. Tier III (very high alert) lockdowns are imposed to prevent the rapid increase of infections, where are all social gathering and access to community spaces is terminated. The special restrictions in Scotland and Wales concern the duration within which restaurants and pubs may serve food and alcohol.

Furthermore, Northern Ireland has also been put under restrictions preventing social gatherings of fifteen people in a community space but restaurants and pubs remain open.

These restrictions come into place as the European Union prepares for a new wave of infections with more stringent policy.
