Commonwealth Union ( Africa ) _ Without evidence of direct participation in the UNGA’s official schedule of events, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to halt the processing of visas for all government officials wishing to travel to New York for the assembly.
According to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, the decision is a part of a larger initiative to lower the cost of government in Nigeria. While Nigeria’s Permanent Mission in New York is further instructed to prevent and stop the accreditation of any government official who is not listed on the protocol lists forwarded by the approving authority, Tinubu asked the U.S. Mission in Nigeria to be appropriately guided on official visa processing in the new directive on Monday.

All federal ministries, departments, and agencies are required to make sure that all officials who have been given permission to join the UNGA delegation tightly restrict the number of aides and other staff members who attend the event. Any excesses or irregularities found in this regard will be eliminated during the final verification procedure.
The President declares that going forwards, government officials and spending must be prudent and reflect the sacrifices being made by well-meaning Nigerians all around the country. Ngelale declared.
