New Zealand (Commonwealth) _ Devon Conway, the Black Caps’ opening batsman, will be sidelined from the first Test against Australia due to his thumb injury, New Zealand Cricket said .

It’s unfortunate for Conway to be pulled out on the eve of a crucial match,” said New Zealand coach Gary Stead. He’s an excellent player who bats at the top of the order for us, and I know he was looking forward to this series. It’s good to have a guy of Henry’s caliber to rely on, Stead added. He has extensive Test experience and can fill a variety of spots in our batting order.
