Ontario, Canada (CU)_ According to Westland Insurance Group’s latest announcement, the company has purchased MCR Insurance in Aurora, Ontario and Walter Roberts Insurance in Richmond Hill, Ontario. MCR Insurance and Walter Roberts Insurance are both based in Ontario, which is a crucial location for Westland. Westland Insurance has witnessed tremendous growth in Ontario over the past two years and intends to continue developing its business in the province in order to better serve the new and existing customers, especially in the Commercial sectors.
Jamie Lyons, President & COO of Westland, expressed optimism over the acquisitions. He said, “MCR brings a depth of capabilities in high value home, cottage, auto and commercial lines, with a focus on the growing communities north of the Greater Toronto Area and Muskoka”. He added, “Walter Roberts specializes in E&O, standard, niche, and high value products across personal and commercial lines. Each of these acquisitions adds significant depth and strength to our rapidly expanding footprint in the Ontario market, which remains key to our national strategy.”
Donna Barclay, Executive Vice President of Commercial and Eastern Canada Operations at Westland, expressed hopes over the acquisition. She said, “Ontario’s importance to the Canadian insurance marketplace makes it a key part of our national strategy. The scale and diverse nature of the insurance business in Ontario is attractive as we look to serve more Canadians coast to coast with more product options and advisory based solutions.”
Westland is investing heavily and continuously to expand its Canadian business, both organically and by strategic acquisitions. Westland offers expertise and advisory-based services for a vast array of insurance lines, including personal, commercial, specialty, and niche categories. As a result of these acquisitions, Westland now employs more than 2,300 staff working for Canadians from British Columbia to the Maritimes.
