What Lies Ahead for Harry in the Trump Era?

Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ Prince Harry’s future in the United States might rest in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump, whose upcoming tenure could introduce a nuanced approach to the Duke of Sussex’s immigration status. The controversy stems from Harry’s admission of past drug use in his memoir, Spare, which some legal experts suggest could contradict information on his US visa application when he relocated in 2020.

The Heritage Foundation, a prominent conservative think tank, has urged scrutiny of Harry’s visa records, citing Trump’s hardline stance on immigration policies. Nile Gardiner, the foundation’s director, told GB News, “President Trump is firmly committed to securing America’s borders and enforcing immigration laws fully.”

On the other hand, legal experts, including Michael Wildes, a New York-based immigration lawyer with ties to the Trump family, predict a more diplomatic resolution. Wildes believes Trump could approach Harry’s case as an opportunity to strengthen ties with Britain’s King Charles.

“He could permit Harry to stay as a gesture of goodwill for King Charles,” Wildes noted, emphasizing Trump’s history of balancing political considerations with legal strictness in high-profile cases.

Furthermore, Wildes suggested Trump might extend clemency for any potential domestic offenses related to Harry’s past admissions. “He may pardon the Prince for any domestic crimes. Having worked with Mr. Trump on delicate immigration issues, I can attest to his pragmatic decision-making in such matters,” Wildes added.

Should Harry’s visa come under scrutiny, his legal options may hinge on his residency status. While deportation could be swift if he remains on a visa, holding a green card might afford him more avenues to contest removal.

Speculation has also risen about Harry’s contingency planning. Reports indicate he has purchased property in Portugal, signaling preparations for a potential relocation. Royal commentator Richard Eden shared an insider’s view, stating, “Harry is likely to spend more time in Britain in the coming years.”

The intersection of law, diplomacy, and public perception makes Prince Harry’s case a fascinating litmus test for Trump’s forthcoming immigration policies. Whether Trump opts for strict enforcement or a goodwill gesture, the outcome will carry significant implications for US-UK relations and the public’s perception of the president’s approach to high-profile cases.
