Julie Andrews, the very famous English actress, author and singer, will receive the American Film Institute’s 48th Lifetime Achievement Award. Andrews will be honored during the rescheduled Gala event in November at the Dolby Theatre.
According to the American digital and print magazine website, The Hollywood Reporter, AFI president and CEO, Bob Gazzale lauded Julie Andrews for her contributions to the film industry, which spans nearly 8 decades. He said, “Julie Andrews has lifted the spirits of the world for generations. Now, more than ever, AFI looks forward to gathering the globe to celebrate the many gifts and joy she has given us — proving her, of course, ‘practically perfect in every way.'”
Andrews has won several awards over the course of her career, including an Oscar Award for her performance in Mary Poppins in 1964. She was nominated for her dual roles in The Sound of Music and Victor Victoria, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination. Julie Andrews is known for her performance in films such as The Princess Diaries and The Man Who Loved Women, as well as television shows including Bridgerton. Andrews has also dubbed some characters in Despicable Me 3, Aquaman, and Shrek 2.
The American Film Institute (AFI) is a non-profit organization committed to educating artists and viewers about the history, present, and future of motion picture arts in the United States. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the gala event, which had been planned for April 25, 2020 but had been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has been rescheduled to November 11.
