ZIMBABWE (Commonwealth Union) – It seems like drug traffickers are trying all airports to see which police will be able to catch their drug peddling first. This is not the first news article one will read about drugs being smuggled and caught by the authorities and it will definitely won’t be the last.

Some airports are easier for the smugglers to smuggle and some airports aren’t but there are always mistakes in calculation and maybe this time just was a miscalculation of risk as the Zimbabwean police hits the jack pot of drugs when doing a sweep.

The Zimbabwean police had a tip off as well as a suspicion and they decided to do a random sweep based on both of these and didn’t they find the gold at the end of the rainbow as they managed to bust almost 18Kg of heroin that was allegedly being smuggled to India through two airports. One airport was the Victoria Falls airport and the being The Robert Mugabe International Airport.

The two suspects are not African natives as one is an Indian national whilst the second was a Latvian national. Both individuals were trying their best to smuggle the drugs out of Zimbabwe and into India. Which part of India the drugs were being smuggled to have not been confirmed.

The Latvian national a man by the name of Vitalis Kudrjasovs was the first to be arrested at the Robert Mugabe International Airport as he was about to board his flight to Addis Ababa where the final destination was India. He was detained in the airport for questioning. The police supposedly found 8 kilos of Heroin that had been carefully packed to the lining of his bag. Early this week Kudrjasovs appeared in front of the Harare magistrate Taurai Manuwere, who then told the courts and police to hold him in remand till the 24th of October giving the National Prosecuting Authority ample time to find an interpreter. The language barrier was problem for either party to understand what was being said.
