Iran has paused its negotiations with the United States after rising tensions in the region linked to the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Lebanon, and allied groups. Government-aligned media reported that Israel’s continued military actions in Lebanon prompted the decision. Officials said Iran would suspend discussions and stop exchanging proposals through mediators. The talks were part of broader efforts to reduce conflict connected to the war that has continued for several months.
The suspension adds more uncertainty to already fragile diplomatic efforts. Iranian parliamentary officials warned that the situation could escalate further if attacks in Lebanon continue. One senior lawmaker said Iran could take action if what it described as Israeli operations do not stop. He said Iran was still interested in ending the war but insisted that continued strikes could force a different response. Iran’s Foreign Ministry also blamed the United States for what it called violations of ceasefire arrangements. It said Washington shares responsibility for regional developments involving Israel and Lebanon.
The statement added more pressure on already tense relations between Iran and the U.S. At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had spoken with Israeli leadership and representatives linked to Hezbollah. He claimed that discussions had taken place about stopping attacks. He also said troops wouldn’t be sent to Beirut and that any troop movement was reversed.
Trump also posted on social media that he had encouraged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid a major raid on Beirut. He said Netanyahu agreed to adjust military plans. He also claimed that communication with Hezbollah representatives resulted in a temporary understanding to reduce fighting.
These claims were not independently confirmed. Later statements from Israeli officials suggested that military operations could continue if attacks against Israel did not stop. Netanyahu said Israel could strike targets in Beirut if Hezbollah continued its actions. He said Israeli forces would also continue operations in southern Lebanon.
A Lebanese diplomatic statement said Hezbollah had agreed in principle to a proposal involving a halt in attacks. Under the reported plan, Israeli strikes on parts of Beirut would stop if Hezbollah stopped launching attacks. It also suggested the possibility of expanding any ceasefire to cover more of Lebanon in the future. Iranian security officials also warned that continued fighting could lead to wider regional consequences. One official said resistance groups allied with Iran could respond if the conflict expands.
These groups operate in different countries across the region and have been involved in past confrontations with Israel and its allies. There were also threats related to key shipping routes. Iranian-linked sources said the Strait of Hormuz could be closed if tensions rise further. Other waterways in the region were also mentioned as potential pressure points.
These routes is important for global oil transport, and any disruption could affects energy markets. Following these reports, oil prices increased sharply. Markets reacted to fears that the conflict could spreads and disrupt shipping and energy supply chains. Meanwhile, the United States and Iran reportedly exchanged limited strikes over the weekend, despite a declared truce. Both sides have continued to accusing each other of violations.
Israel has also continued military operations in Lebanon, including strikes near Beirut and deeper movements into southern areas. The conflict begin earlier this year and have involved multiple countries and armed groups. It has caused significant casualties and increasing tensions across the Middle East.
Diplomatic talks has continued at different points, but major disagreements remain over security, military activity, and regional influence. At this stage, negotiations remain suspended. Statements from all sides suggests that both diplomatic and military actions are still ongoing. The situation remain unstable, with the possibility of further escalation depending on future developments.
